happy halloween!

"Happy Halloween!" from Rosie the Riveter

So, just when I was accepting the fact that I wasn't going to dress up this year, I came across this idea last Thursday.  I googled like "mad" and found this easy costume.  I had all the essentials (jeans, jean shirt) except for the red bandana.  I made my way to Walmart during my lunch break and bought a bandana, a glue stick and a poster board, all for $4.00.  The hardest part was probably cutting out the letters. Really, I didn't have to make the sign, but made it just in case no one got it (and Paul was almost positive that no one would).  And if you're still confused, here's the original (and read more about it here).

What do you think?  I couldn't find a polka dot bandana, didn't have a pin for my collar, I shouldn't have smiled, and should have shown more of my guns, but other than that, I think it turned out pretty good!  And just for fun, let's walk down memory lane from Halloweens past.

2005 - 80's Girl

 Boring!

2006 (and 2007) - Foxy Cleopatra

The first pic is of me and my sister as Violet from The Incredibles.  Karina and I were pretty proud of our costumes!  She was even thinking of bringing it back this year.  The second pic is of me and my boyfriend as a nerd.  That was very last minute because we were going to a costume party.  I tied for first place with Mr. Arturo Alvarez (he used to play for FC Dallas - dang, he's on Wikipedia) who dressed up as Starchild (Paul Stanley) from Kiss.

I had so much fun with this costume, that I wore it again in 2007 for our costume contest at work.  I came in second place.  People at work called me Foxy for the rest of the year.

Sadly, I didn't dress up in 2008 and 2009.  So let's move on to 2010.

2010 - Dora the Explorer

I just cut my hair early October last year, just in time for Halloween.  My sister thinks I copied Jessica Alba, but I totally thought of it first.  She obviously looked cuter.  The costume wasn't too bad to put together.  I bought a cheap pink shirt at Walmart, and some yellow socks.  The hardest part was probably finding a Dora backpack.  And of course, I made Paul dress up as Diego.  I was called Dora at work for the rest of the year.

To gear up for Halloween, we bought a ton of candy.  These kids are so lucky!  We're going to pick out all the good ones though before handing them out (sorry kids).

Bailey got into the spirit too and tried on my bandana.  Paul named her "Bailey the Bear-faced Bandit."

She fell asleep from all the excitement.

And while she was busy napping, I carved a pumpkin.  I had plans for two more pumpkins, but I got lazy.

I can't wait to be Rosie again tonight.  Most of the kids probably won't get it.  Last year was fun because the kids' faces lit up when they saw Dora at the door.  Oh well.  I should start planning out my costume for next year!

I hope everyone has a safe and spooktacular Halloween!

  3. As much as I hate Dora, I have to admit the costume was cute. And, seriously, people didn't get Rosie?! It's iconic!
