antique cradle

I've been in love with this cradle ever since I bought it last week from my coworker's stepdaughter.  They picked it up at an antique store last year and she used it for her son who was born last December.  I was a little hesitant to get it, but after my sister-in-law convinced me (and it didn't take much) that I'd need a co-sleeper for the first few weeks, I ended up getting it for $40.  I took it home last Tuesday and I couldn't be happier with how it looks!

I'm having a hard time finding a mattress cover since it's a little bigger than a changing pad, yet smaller than a crib mattress.  So I wrapped it in a throw blanket temporarily until I find the right one that fits.

I'm hoping this will save me some sleepless nights, but somehow I doubt it.  We're keeping this in our bedroom for a few weeks while the baby sleeps with us.  This is truly a timeless piece that I'm sure I'll enjoy using with Baby T and future babies to come!

Pregnancy Update:  I'm 35 weeks today!  Paul assembled the stroller this past weekend and even installed the carseat in my car.  His fatherly instincts sure kicked in!  As excited as we are to meet this baby, we want him stay in just a little while longer until he's "well done."  We're so smitten with him already!

  1. Precious! I think that cradle is adorable. We used a bassinet next to our bed for the first month. I think it definitely helps you and baby as you both adjust. Congrats on being at the end of your pregnancy... so exciting! : )

    1. Thanks for the advice. We were going to use our Pack N Play temporarily but I think this works out better. We're excited to meet this little guy! Congrats on Baby H!

  2. So adorable, I love the cradle. So you!

Great idea keeping it in your room for a while, I believe you'll need it. I never mastered crib/cradle sleeping with the girls. They slept in a bed top bassinette in our bed with us. I know, bad with the co-sleeping, but I was big on the attachment parenting thing and it was oh so much easier to get some rest when they were with us.

Wow 35 weeks, almost there!!! Can't wait to see Baby T! I have to say, I have been feeling some serious Baby Fever the last few weeks. Doesn't help that M2 is demanding a little sister.

    1. Yeah, we'll see how long he'll sleep with us. I don't think there's a right time frame of keeping them in the room with you. Guess you just have to go with your instincts? Baby #3 in the near future? I'd love to see a Macky Jr!

  3. I LOVE IT. HOMG I LOVE IT SOOOO SO MUCH. Do you know what the weight/age limit is on it? Because eventually he'll get his head stuck in the slats (it happens to everyone) and/or be heavy enough to tip it over but you can always use it as a toy chest (or for Baby T's younger brothers/sisters) because it's GORGEOUS and you have to keep it FOREVER

    1. Thanks! No, we don't know what the weight/age limit, but I'm thinking once the baby knows how to roll over, we'll definitely need to move him up to the crib! Paul wanted to put Bailey in there but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't hold since she's 46 lbs!

    2. I agree! Keep it forever...it's such a classic nursery piece. Maybe you can put stuffed toys in there when baby T gets too big.
